Character Evolution

The evolution of a character! These are some concepts I did for a game concept that we were toying with here at Longbow a while back. I can’t say more than that, but I got permission to go ahead and share them with you. :) I have a few more other things to share later, but I like a lot of her concept work.

Hegemony Rome: Mercenaries DLC

The Mercenaries DLC for Hegemony Rome just launched today, so here are the concept art pieces I did for each unit.

First up, The Garamante Spearmen. A unit from modern day southwestern Lybia, the Garamantes were a Berber people of Northern Africa. One of the reasons we included them in Rome was to help diversify the units. Not a lot to play with on this one - almost all my research turned up the same images for what they wore.

Second, The Iberian Swordsmen. These are troops from modern-day Spain, which at the time had a few different cultures, including the Iberians, who would later be conglomerated into the roman province Hispania. These were really fun - lots of variation though it was hard to peg down specifics for the time period. Their sword - the Falcata - is beautiful, and very specific to this area, and now I want one.

Next up, the Dacian Swordsmen. Dacia was an ancient nation of Northern Thracians that changed in size and shape over it's history, and was conquered by Rome later, but was generally located in the area of Romania and Moldova now. They used a thin, curved sword called a Falx - the one you see here is a one-handed version, but they also had a longer two handed version that was bad ass. I really liked their scale mail and distinctive helmets.
The Sarmatian Lancer! In our game we gave him more of a spear than a lance (due to animation difficulties) but in reality they would fight with lances between 3 or 4 meters long! They were generally used to run down and utterly destroy infantry. Instead of a lance I've pictured him here with their traditional banner, which were completely awesome and kind of look like dragon heads. In reality, the horses of the time period were quite a bit shorter/stockier/fuzzier but we tend to see non-modern horses as 'wrong', so I kept with a small modern horse.

Thracian Peltasts! Those of you who played Hegemony: Wars of Ancient Greece should recognize these guys - Peltasts were skirmishers and light infantry for Ancient Grecian - and Thracian - armies. They also have amusing hats.

Here's the quick sketch I did for the Suione's ships - basically the precurser to the later viking long ships. There is almost no physical example of them extant today, but they are described in contemporary reports and the carvings you can see that I included above. The top have of the image are my references, the bottom the sketch that I did. I included the ref of the ships that they were using several hundred years after this - but at the time of our game, they didn't have the distinctive mast and sail.

That's it! Hope you enjoyed.

The Eagle

Hey Everyone! It's been a while, I've been hard at work on Hegemony: Rome, but in the meantime I've also been doing a class with Todd Lockwood for the SmART School! So, with the gracious permission of my employers at Longbow Games, I did a little painting for Rome as part of my course work, and here it is. c:

Hope you all enjoy! Rome is officially launching in Spring 2014 so keep an eye out for us. c:

Hegemony Rome : Briton Loading Screen

Got the go ahead to release this painting, so here it is! The second loading screen, featuring the Britons and their chariot! This also happens to be the painting I was working on at the Illustration Master Class last year!

Other cool news is that Hegemony: Gold has finally been released on Steam! Check it out, if you are so inclined! The price has also dropped, too.

So, if you saw my post made exactly a month ago, you might recognise this follow up! This painting was done as a demo painting here at the Longbow Games booth in Toronto for FanExpo, for our game Hegemony: Gold. You can check it out on the new site here : http://www.longbowgames.com/hegemony/ (there is a free demo and everything :) )

This painting is based around a confrontation between a Spartan and an Athenian.

While I painted this we also recorded the whole process, which has been sped up into a nice little video that you can find here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbChjyPvAX4 I even have a commentary track where I ramble about how I paint. :) Hope you enjoy!

"Hegemony: Gold" Gen Con Painting Demo

The Longbow Team (myself included) took a long drive to go join Gen Con last weekend down in Indianapolis, Indiana. While we were there, I did a painting demo for our game Hegemony: Gold (which you can buy over on our site). The theme for the painting demo was the Sacred Band of Thebes, which are probably my favourite group of ancient greek dudes. You can read more about them here: https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Sacred_Band_of_Thebes

So here's the painting as well as a time-lapse video of the painting process.

Have lots of work to show you guys, but you'll still have to wait a while I'm afraid. :) Enjoy this for now!

"Hegemony: Gold" Icons

Been working at Longbow Games for a month and a half now, and I can finally show you some work, as it will be released with an upcoming patch for Hegemony: Gold!

I've also created a thread specifically for my Hegemony work over at the Longbow Games Forums, which has a little bit more description of each image and who they are, what they are used for, etc. So go there for more info. :]

In the meantime, drawings!

A quick screen cap study, a calendar, and Lost Chronicles: Salem!

A bunch of stuff to share today!

Firstly, a quick study I did based on a screenshot from the move EverAfter (1998), of Drew Barrymore. I loved the lighting in this shot! And I love this movie in general. The costumes are to die for!

Also! Through Not Your Father's Pin-Up, I and over 25 other artists have put together a calendar for charity! Specifically for Pink Ribbon, an international charity fighting breast cancer. The Calendar is on sale at lulu, and you can buy one! If you can't buy one, please pass the word and let's raise lots of money together. Here's a sneak peak in the form of the cover! :D

Also, one of the games that I worked on at Vast Studios was released today! Lost Chronicles: Salem came out on Big Fish for members, and will be available to the general public tomorrow. I'll have a bunch of images to show you from it soon! Check out the game here!

Lost Chronicles: Salem Announcment

Hey Everyone,

Vast Studios (my place of employment) has released two of my character paintings that I did for our Salem project in tandem with National Geographic, which is yet to be released. However, they're also released a video! So you can check out that, and my work for it, here. My characters are in the background image!

To make it easy, though, I'll post them here too. :P

Nightfall Mysteries : Asylum Conspiracy Character Portraits

Hey everyone! My second released title - Nightfall Mysteries: Asylum Conspiracy - has been out for two months now, so I can show you a bit more art for it. I did a bunch of character assets for the game, but I've pulled a few of my favourites (those that would fit on portfolio pages) to show you. I might post some more later, but for now this will do. :]

You can play the game for an hour for free if you download it from Bigfish, both the PC Version and the Mac Version. It has also been released at the French and German portals of that site. If you try the demo or play the game, let me know what you think of it!

Vast Studios has also released an announcement about their upcoming title 'Lost Chronicles: Salem', in cooperation with National Geographic. This will be my third published title, and my second here at Vast Studios! You can see the released teaser trailer here.

Without further ado, onto the art. :P

Check it out, guys!

I've been working at Vast Studios as a digital painter for just about three months now, and they've just released some sneak peak art (including three of my characters!) for the game I've been slaving away on.

Please check it out on the website itself, too! No release date mentioned yet, but I'll keep you guys updated. :]

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies!

I'm happy to announce the first video game released with my art in it! :D

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies - based on the book by the same title - just hit the apple store, available for play on the iPhone for $2.99 American!

You can check it out here, including the trailer : Freeverse - Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

I haven't had a chance to play the game yet, as I don't have an iPhone, but the reviews have been pretty good so far, if I say so myself. :] So give it a look and let me know what you think.

In the meantime, I can finally show you some of the work I did for it!
