A quick screen cap study, a calendar, and Lost Chronicles: Salem!

A bunch of stuff to share today!

Firstly, a quick study I did based on a screenshot from the move EverAfter (1998), of Drew Barrymore. I loved the lighting in this shot! And I love this movie in general. The costumes are to die for!

Also! Through Not Your Father's Pin-Up, I and over 25 other artists have put together a calendar for charity! Specifically for Pink Ribbon, an international charity fighting breast cancer. The Calendar is on sale at lulu, and you can buy one! If you can't buy one, please pass the word and let's raise lots of money together. Here's a sneak peak in the form of the cover! :D

Also, one of the games that I worked on at Vast Studios was released today! Lost Chronicles: Salem came out on Big Fish for members, and will be available to the general public tomorrow. I'll have a bunch of images to show you from it soon! Check out the game here!

Oil Sketch

Broke out the oils again! It's been a few years since I last attempted them (resulted in one half-complete half-hearted painting) and a few years before that when I did a bunch of dali-inspired sketches (thank you, high school hormones).

Planning on working with these a bunch in the upcoming year to prepare myself for the Illustration Master Class in June. I can't wait!

This one is a sketch of my dad, which I did in a couple of hours while he was sitting on the couch watching Scott Pilgrim. (He kept grinning, which made it a bit difficult!)

Figurine! Re: Pottery

So as you might have noticed from an earlier post I've been doing pottery once a week for a couple months now, and recently started taking a more intensive class for it.

This was a figurine that I scuplted in week two of said class, finished sculpting her the next week, fired her, glazed her and then fired her again and just got her back. She's done! There's a bunch of things I learned on the way that I would change now (unfortunatey once she's fired you can't really go back!) but for a first attempt at a hand-built porcelain statue, I think she came out pretty good. :]

First Picture is a process picture - after she's been fired the first time, the glaze when it was put on, and after she was fired the second time. The rest are pictures of her complete!

Wood Elf Pin-Up

Wood Elf Pin-Up that I started for that Art Order contest months ago (before life + job got in the way). Not happy with it but need to call it done and start on something fresh.

Old Portrait

A digital painting I kind of forgot about since it was never finished, but found it today and figured I should post it anyway. It's from a portrait painting class that I sat in with Coro when I was interning for MB - two of the other ones I did you can see in my portfolio.

For some reason I wasn't happy with this when I did it, but I like it well enough now.

The Lady Amalthea

This was started ages ago for the Last Unicorn gallery thing that was going on, but it was left unfinished and then forgotten. I was going through my hard drive to find things to print for the convention tomorrow, and found this! Gave it a couple hours worth of work and voila, I think it's looking fairly respectable.

Pottery!

So this is a little off-beat for this blog, but as it's still art, I figured I would post it here. I've been doing open pottery classes the last few weeks, and I finally have a couple pieces that have been painted and fired for a second time, so I thought I would show you some pictures I took of them. All of these were sculpted by me, by the way, on a pottery wheel, then fired, painted, and fired again!

Lost Chronicles: Salem Announcment

Hey Everyone,

Vast Studios (my place of employment) has released two of my character paintings that I did for our Salem project in tandem with National Geographic, which is yet to be released. However, they're also released a video! So you can check out that, and my work for it, here. My characters are in the background image!

To make it easy, though, I'll post them here too. :P

20's Comic

Overcome with the desire to draw something today.

I hope my sense of humour is funny to anyone else!

Nightfall Mysteries : Asylum Conspiracy Character Portraits

Hey everyone! My second released title - Nightfall Mysteries: Asylum Conspiracy - has been out for two months now, so I can show you a bit more art for it. I did a bunch of character assets for the game, but I've pulled a few of my favourites (those that would fit on portfolio pages) to show you. I might post some more later, but for now this will do. :]

You can play the game for an hour for free if you download it from Bigfish, both the PC Version and the Mac Version. It has also been released at the French and German portals of that site. If you try the demo or play the game, let me know what you think of it!

Vast Studios has also released an announcement about their upcoming title 'Lost Chronicles: Salem', in cooperation with National Geographic. This will be my third published title, and my second here at Vast Studios! You can see the released teaser trailer here.

Without further ado, onto the art. :P

Wonder Woman Sketch

I was drawing a sketch of a pirate girl, and suddenly it turned into a wonder woman redesign! So I went with it.

Wonder Woman character is copyright DC Comics, as you should know!

Mermaid Watercolour

I did this months ago for Guido Kuip. It's watercolour and ink - one of the few traditional paintings I've done in years and I am still rather unhappy with the tail. (I decided not to edit the tail out in photoshop, though I did clean up a few other lines.) One day I'll use this as a base and make a better digi-painting out of it, but I thought you might like to see the original.

I'm currently on vacation and going through my old files to see if there's anything I wanted to post that I hadn't before, or things I didn't finish that I'd still like to, or if there was anything I wanted to toss. I'll let you guess which group has more work that falls into it! ;]

Asylum Conspiracy

Check it out, guys!

I've been working at Vast Studios as a digital painter for just about three months now, and they've just released some sneak peak art (including three of my characters!) for the game I've been slaving away on.

Please check it out on the website itself, too! No release date mentioned yet, but I'll keep you guys updated. :]

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies!

I'm happy to announce the first video game released with my art in it! :D

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies - based on the book by the same title - just hit the apple store, available for play on the iPhone for $2.99 American!

You can check it out here, including the trailer : Freeverse - Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

I haven't had a chance to play the game yet, as I don't have an iPhone, but the reviews have been pretty good so far, if I say so myself. :] So give it a look and let me know what you think.

In the meantime, I can finally show you some of the work I did for it!

Quick Concept Sketch

Been busy at the new job so haven't had a lot of time for personal stuff, but I've been writing up notes for a book that's slowly building in my head, and this is a quick concept sketch for it. From a parallel universe where dinosaurs didn't face a mass extinction and were allowed to evolve, and one particular hardy branch brought about a sentient species.

Speed Sketch!

Felt like doing a quick colour-based sketch, and somehow ended up with this. :P

The Atlantean

I did this originally for Chow 192 but didn't finish it for the deadline, and it didn't look very Anarchist-y so I just finished it for myself. :P

New Pin-up!

This week I was working on a pin-up for the Character of the Week round, 'CA Ink'. I've also Cross posted it to my other blog, which is a co-op pin-up art blog called 'Not Your Father's Pin-Up'. You should check it out if you haven't already!

I've also included a close-up of the face.

Now, without further ado...

Pages and Fun things!

I've added a static "Portfolio" page, so I'm going to use the rest of this as an updatable art blog. Yay? Yay! You can find it just below the title.

So, here's a headshot from a pin-up that I never finished, but I liked how her face turned out!
